Revolutionary Salute!

Jericho honors Comrade Brother and co-founder of the Jericho Movement, Herman Ferguson, who passed Thursday, September 25th surrounded by his loving wife and comrades. We extend our prayers, thoughts and well-wishing to Sister Iyaluua Ferguson and the Ferguson family.

Brother Herman Ferguson represents all of us in so many ways – from working man, community organizer, educator, fugitive, husband, comrade, revolutionary, mentor, and leader. Herman played a decisive leadership role in the struggle for community control of NYC school systems of Ocean-Hill Brownsville, Harlem, and the Lower East Side in the late 60’s. Brother Herman was one of Malcolm X’s close associates, and a prominent member of Malcolm X’s Muslim Mosque Inc., and later one of the founding members of the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU); both organizations created by Malcolm 1964. He also helped to organize the Republic of new Afrika and was a member of the Revolutionary Action Movement (RAM).

Baba Herman will be memorialized in North Carolina on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

Health Campaign for Robert Seth Hayes #74-A-2280

NYC Jericho received a report from Seth regarding continuous harassment by C.O. Darius at Sullivan Correctional Facility. Seth had written a complaint about C.O. Darius some months ago about an incident regarding the New York Times. Seth, who loves the sun, was going to the yard with his newspaper to sit and read, and C.O. Darius insisted upon inspecting the paper, which he then made a mess of and gave back to Seth. Seth complained, stating that the paper was not in the condition it should be, and C.O. Darius basically ignored him, resulting in the written complaint by Seth.

This has resulted in extremely dangerous retaliatory action by C.O. Darius, who has been deliberately delaying Seth from getting his 11 a.m. insulin shot. Seth’s sugars are finally under somewhat better control after a long campaign to get him proper medical treatment following his sudden weight loss at the end of last year. Seth must be on a strict insulin regimen, and this delay of 20 to 40 minutes on a daily basis could actually endanger his life.

Read Seth’s report on the situation here. (We will type in and have available as text very soon, so check back.)

We must be making phone calls and writing for Seth to demand that this harassment by C.O. Darius stop immediately. We must also demand that Seth receive his insulin on time every day.

NYS DOCCS states on its website that denial of adequate medical care is a violation of a person’s eighth amendment constitutional rights, as this would be cruel and unusual punishment. Of course, adequate medical care would include a diabetic diet, which is absolutely not provided by NYS DOCCS. Additionally, they refuse to allow food package items such as diabetic cookies and candies.

Of course, if Robert Seth Hayes had been released on parole instead of having 15 years added to his sentence by the NYS DOCCS Parole Board, he would be a free man today and would have better access to adequate medical care than he currently does.

Please write, call, fax and email the following people and insist that Robert Seth Hayes, DIN No. 74-A-2280, receive his insulin on time. If you are a doctor, nurse, or any other kind of medical personnel, please use your letterhead. Please email nycjericho@gmail.com and let us know what response you receive. Also, if you are able to find out any additional phone or fax numbers, we will be grateful for the information.

Struggling to Win: Chilean Anarchist’s Building Power Event

Image

PCC Cascade Campus Terrell Hall Building, Room 122

Chile has a long history of working class struggle in shanty-towns, factories, mines, community organizations, and schools. In the 20 years after the US supported coup, much of the organizing was done underground. However after the fall of the dictatorship in 1990, there was a new rise of mass popular organization. Anarchists have been a major force in the social movements, strategically organizing to build power. This national tour brings three individuals, Melissa, Gabriel and Pablo, to talk about the lessons learned and to create solidarity across hemispheres.
Specific Questions to be Addressed:

• The strategies that influenced building a social movement
• The importance of a class analysis
• Social insertion
• Fusing theory with lived realities
• Anarchist materialist perspectives
Anarcha-Feminism
• The Theater of the Oppressed and popular education
• Patriarchy and structural violence through capitalism, state and religion
• Gender violence and discrimination

Sponsored by: Institute for Anarchist Studies; Black Rose Anarchist Federation; Hella 503 Collective; Portland Central America Solidarity Committee (PCASC); Living Stages Theater; Oregon Jericho; PDX Anarchist Black Cross; Students for Unity; PSU Student Union; The Q Club (PCC Cascade) and KBOO Radio.

Urgent Health Campaign for
Robert Seth Hayes #74-A-2280

Seth in 2011
Seth on Nov. 30, 2013

Robert Seth Hayes Days of Action:
Thurs 12/12 and Fri 12/13

Robert Seth Hayes is one of the longest held political prisoners in the US. He is being held at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, NY. He is very sick and needs your help.

Mr. Hayes suffers from diabetes mellitis, as well as hepatitis C. He has lost 40 pounds over the past three months. This constitutes unintentional weight loss of 22% of his original body weight. The degree of his weight loss as well as the time frame over which the weight loss has occurred is alarming.

Mr. Hayes requires urgent evaluation of his weight loss which should includes a complete evaluation for cancer and other causes of abnormal weight loss. To date he has not received this evaluation. DOCCS is mandated to provide appropriate medical care to incarcerated persons. Appropriate medical care, in this case, requires urgent diagnosis of the cause of his rapid weight loss and appropriate treatment.

We must act now!

It is crucially important that we pressure Sullivan Correctional Facility to provide appropriate medical treatment for Seth.

***Please join our phone-call and letter/fax campaign
on Thurs Dec 12th and Fri Dec 13th!***

THINGS YOU CAN DO:

1) On Thursday, Dec. 12th, call

***Dr. Sidorowicz, Health Services Facility Director at Sullivan Correctional Facility at
(845) 434-2080 ext 6126
— if that extension doesn’t work you can also try ext 6124 and ext 6117 (these go to the nurse’s station)

and

***Dr. Carl J. Koenigsmann, Chief Medical Officer, DOCCS Division of Health Services at
(518) 457-7073

***Suggested talking points***

a) Briefly state your concerns regarding the health of Robert Seth Hayes, #74-A-2280.
— Mr. Hayes has lost 40 lbs which constitutes a 22% loss of his original body weight.
— He has been denied appropriate and necessary medical treatment for this weight loss which includes a work-up for the cause of this weight loss.
b) Ask why Seth Hayes has not received the recommended and necessary medical work-up and
treatment; and
c) Demand that Seth Hayes be transferred to an outside medical facility where he can receive an appropriate work-up and treatment.

2) On Friday, Dec. 13th, fax a letter on Seth’s behalf (sample letter below which can be edited and signed by either a medical advocate or a non-medical advocate). Please fax letters to

Dear Dr. Koenigsmann,

My name is *****. I am a physician at *****. I am writing on behalf of Robert Seth Hayes, #74-A-2280, DOB 10-15-48, who is currently a prisoner at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, NY.

Mr. Hayes suffers from diabetes mellitis, as well as hepatitis C. I am writing because Mr. Hayes has lost 40 pounds over the past three months. This constitutes unintentional weight loss of 22% of his premorbid body weight. The degree of his weight loss as well as the time frame over which the weight loss has occurred is alarming and more than meets the criteria for cachexia.

Mr. Hayes requires urgent evaluation of his weight loss which should include a complete evaluation for cancer and other causes of cachexia. To date he has not received this evaluation. DOCCS is mandated to provide appropriate medical care to incarcerated persons pursuant to the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Appropriate medical care, in this case, requires urgent diagnosis of the cause of his rapid weight loss and appropriate treatment.

I strongly urge you to transfer Mr. Hayes to an outside medical facility immediately for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

I thank you for your attention to these medical matters. I can be reached at ***** for any questions.

Sincerely,

**********

Seth Hayes, Political Prisoner:

Robert ‘Seth’ Hayes is one of the longest-held political prisoners in the USA. Born in the Bronx in 1948, Seth was imprisoned due to his activity in the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army, a fighting formation which grew out of the Black liberation movement of the 1960s.

Thank you for taking the time to fight for medical justice for Seth!

Police Repression and Government Abuse of Power: The Case of Assata Shakur

assataposter

On Thursday, May 2, 2013, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State of New Jersey placed Sister Assata Shakur on the terrorist list and doubled the bounty for her capture from one million to two million dollars. This makes Sister Assata the first women to be placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist List.

This action on the part of the FBI and New Jersey State Police is just another example that aligns itself with the ongoing history of abuse and injustices directed towards those who struggled for Black self-determination and the human and civil rights of all people. Notwithstanding the denouncements of the illegalities and Constitutional violations of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Program (COINTELPRO) by the (Senator Frank) Church Committee Hearings, the designation of terrorist demonstrates the continued racist repression and hypocrisy of the FBI and State police agencies towards Blacks.

By any legitimate standard, terrorism is the use of violence or the threat thereof to cower a people/population for political ends. Not surprisingly, it is the FBI and the State of New Jersey that evidently seek, as they have in the past, to cower and intimidate the people away from standing for justice, fairness, and humanity. This action on the part of the FBI is evidently designed to play on the ignorance and fears of the people. There is no rhyme or reason for this designation after 40 years since her arrest, except to inflame public sentiment and opinion in characterizing Sister Assata as a terrorist.

The Jericho Movement to free all Political Prisoners denounces this action on the part of the FBI and State of New Jersey, and joins with all good minded people and organizations who stand for justice and fairness, in demanding that this action be rescinded and that Assata be free!

Multiple Houses Visited in Olympia and Seattle by FBI April 25th 2013

According to the Committee Against Political Repression:  April 25th, 2013

“At least 2 houses in Olympia and 2 in Seattle were visited this morning by the FBI, looking for a few different people.  At least one of the people is being sought because the FBI wants to interview them about May Day/ black bloc.  At this point it is unclear whether there are subpoenas for either of the people the FBI is looking for, or whether they’re trying a more informal approach.”
